Effect of highprotein diet on the wound

High-protein diets are associated with increased healing of pressure ulcers. Malnourished elderly male patients who received a high protein diet (2.1 ± 0.9 g/kg) for 8 weeks had a significant decline in total truncal pressure ulcer surface area (-4.2 ± 7.1 cm2 ) compared to those who received a low-protein diet (1.4 ± 0.5 g/kg) (-2.1 ± 11.5 cm2)6. Additionally, among subjects with Stage IV ulcers, total truncal pressure ulcer surface area decreased by -7.6 ± 5.8 cm2 in the high-protein group compared to a decline of -3.2 ± 16.4 cm2 in the low-protein group. Dietary protein intake was significantly correlated with the change in ulcer area.26
