Nonrebreathing mask

a. A simple face mask and reservoir bag with valves added. One valve covers one side port of the face mask with a simple flap that prevents inspiration of room air; the other valve covers the reservoir bag so that expired air cannot enter bag. One side port of the face mask is intentionally left open in case oxygen flow is accidentally discontinued, so that mask does not completely obstruct air entry.

b. Patient pulls 100% oxygen from the reservoir bag, which must remain adequately inflated to function properly. With an adequate seal and adequate flow to the bag (10-15 L/min), this system is capable of delivering Fio2 of up to 90%.
