Physical Exam Key Points

1. Vital signs and general appearance. Check vital signs, including height and weight percentiles, oxygen saturation, temperature, respiratory rate, and use of accessory muscles.

2. Ear. Is there inflammation or foreign body?

3. Mouth. Postnasal drip or cobblestoning of posterior pharynx, indicating lymphoid hyperplasia?

4. Sinuses. Tenderness, swelling, or opacification?

5. Neck. Tracheal shift, indicating pneumothorax or parapneu-monic effusion?
