Case 6-9. Non-Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy
A 71-year-old woman had received grid laser photocoagulation treatment seven months earlier for background diabetic retinopathy and clinically significant macular edema in her right eye. On examination, her visual acuity in this eve was 20/60 * Residual cvstoid macular edema and some scattered microaneurvsms were noted on clini-
j cal examination (A). Fluorescein angiography (B) dis-plaved some diffuse late staining of the retina) pigment epithelium around the macula consistent with old cvstoid macular edema.
Radial OCT sections (C) obtained through the fovea demonstrated the persistence of retinal thickening throughout the macula. The foveal thickness was 270 pnv The contour of the foveal pit appeared steepened and narrowed. A small neurosensory detachment was observed j directly beneath the fovea which was not evident clinically.
