Case 3-6. Stage 3 Macular Hole with a Developing Stage 1 Hole in the Fellow Eye

Clinical Summary

An 8 -year-old woman reported a one week history of vision loss in her right eye. On examination, her visual acuitv was 20/100 in this eve, and a full-thickness macu-

lar hole was diagnosed after slit-lamp biomicroscopy (A),

There was 2 to 3+ nuclear sclerosis of the crystalline lens j bilaterally.

Optical Coherence Tomography

A horizontal Ot ! tomogram (B) confirmed the diagnosis of a Stage 3 macular hole in the right eye. The inner diameter of the hole was approximately 350 Jim. Moderate retinal edema surrounded the hole and the retinal thickness reached a maximum of 380 Jim at the hole margin. A small piece of tissue was identified about 400 jim anterior the retina consistent with an operculum.
