A new type of percutaneous discectomy using a 1.5-mm probe connected to a disposable motor (Dekompressor, Stryker®), which mechanically aspirates the nucleus, has been proposed (Fig. 5)

Advantages of this technique are the small caliber of the probe, its simplicity of use (small portable instrument), and its high tolerance for an ambulatory procedure, provided the operative technique is accurate. However, again, controlled trials remain to be done with this technique also.
