The patient or the patient's family removes the mastoid dressing the day following surgery. One week postoperative the patient is seen in the office, the ear is inspected, and the postauricular Steri-Strips are removed. To loosen the packing, the patient begins using antibiotic eardrops twice a day 3 weeks following surgery. The drops may be started sooner if drainage occurs. The second postoperative visit occurs 6 to 8 weeks following surgery, by which time the ear should be well healed.
