Induced Xenoantibodies In Avxr

Although HAR has been averted by temporarily inhibiting xenoantibody-xenoantigen interactions, AVXR still occurs in association with an increase in anti-PAEC xenoantibody titers. Some prolongation of xenograft survival has been achieved by combining complement and/or antibody depletion with anti-B cell immunosuppression to suppress this induced response. Strategies targeting T cells or specific T-cell based costimulatory pathways, which have been very successful in preventing allograft rejection, fail to effectively inhibit the xenoantibody response or to prevent AVXR. The findings of these studies suggest that the induced xenoantibody response may be partially T-cell independent.
