Donor Evaluation And Management

Cadaveric Donors

All cadaveric donors are potential intestine donors. The cadaveric donor needs to be ABO compatible with the recipient and because of the risk of graft versus host disease ABO identical combinations should be used in most circumstances. In most cases, extensive prior bowel resection has significantly reduced the size of the recipient peritoneal cavity and therefore a donor that is 50 to 75% the size of the recipient is needed. In certain circumstances segments of the intestine from a larger donor may be considered.
