The most significant disadvantage of the technique is the altered sen-sorium associated with inhaled xenon at this concentration. While earlier concerns of apnea and oversedation have largely abated, some patients cannot tolerate the sensation of motion and dysphoria associated with xenon inhalation. Patients undergoing Xe-CT examination should be given supplemental oxygen and have continuous monitoring of oxygen saturation.
