Sagittal synostosis has several common presentations, each of which requires an operation that is designed for the individual deformity. The primary abnormality associated with premature fusion of the sagittal suture is the narrow skull. Compensatory growth occurs at the coronal and lambdoid sutures and increases the anteroposterior dimension of the skull, termed "dolichocephaly" or "scaphocephaly".
