Vulval carcinoma can be imaged using a standard MRI pelvic tumour protocol to show the extent of primary tumour and assess the lymph nodes. High spatial resolution scans of the inguinal regions may be helpful to increase the sensitivity for lymph node metastases. A 20.0cm diameter surface coil is positioned over the groins, centred over the symphysis pubis. Alternatively, a phased array body coil can be used, using all elements for the pelvic images and the anterior elements alone for the inguinal regions. Coronal T1 -weighted and fat-suppressed T2-weighted fast spin echo sequences are obtained through the inguinal regions using a 20.0cm field of view, 256 ><256 imaging matrix, and 3.0mm slice thickness.
