Following a scout planning image, a block of two-dimensional (2D) or three-dimensional (3D) generated slices in the coronal plane is obtained. The patient is positioned with the centre of the FOV at the level of the anterior superior iliac spines. A large FOV of 40-48cm is selected and the body coil (or the phased array coil if sufficient FOV can be obtained) is used to visualise anatomy from above the renal hila to 2.5cm below the symphysis pubis, with slices (7-1 0mm thick) positioned from the sacrum forward to the symphysis pubis.
