1. Mathcad, mathematical software package available for IBM PC and Macintosh-type computers from Mathsoft, Inc., 201 Broadway, Cambridge, MA 02139. The program contains a Marquardt-Levenberg minimization algorithm. An advantage of this software is that it presents equations just as you would write them or see them in a mathematics textbook. It is somewhat easier to learn than Matlab, but less powerful.
2. Matlab, high-performance numerical computation and visualization software, available from The Mathworks, Inc., 24 Prime Park Way, Natick, MA 01760. The program contains a simplex minimization algorithm in the main package and Marquardt-Levenberg and Gauss-Newton algorithms in the Optimization Toolbox, supplied separate from the main package.
