At high activities (3.0-4.5 mCi/kg) thrombocytopenia proved lethal in 4 of 8 patients. In this dose escalation study there was a high degree of pain reduction but this lasted 4-6 weeks in most.

A gamma camera-based quantitation technique found the activity concentration of Sm-153 in trabecular bone to be twice that of cortical bone, while lesion concentrations were 3-7 times higher than in normal bone.
