Adverse Event Reporting

As emphasized in the previous section, preparation for adverse events in patients treated with radionuclides is a major consideration. They can range from acute reactions during and immediately postadministration to problems that occur in the longer term. The nuclear medicine physician often must play the role of counseling the referring physician on possible long-term adverse effects of treatment, how to monitor for them, and how to treat them. Each nuclear medicine practice should have in place an adverse events reporting plan, which involves documentation and submission to various local and state authorities.
