Tomography

In the elbow, computed tomography largely has replaced tomography, which allows thin sections of both AP and lateral projections to show the bony contours. Computed tomography allows the surgeon to view bony detail in many different planes, and it can be extremely helpful in assessing complex fractures as a means of planning before fixation. Contrast can be beneficial as an adjunct to computed tomography for defining both articular and subchondral abnormalities. It can be helpful in assessing osteochondritis dissecans and determining whether loose bodies or a spur is present in or about the elbow.
