Recommendation For The Treatment Of Latent Tuberculosis Infection

Recently revised recommendations for the treatment of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) include new therapeutic regimens as follows:

Isoniazid for 9 months daily or twice weekly is preferred for all adults.

Isoniazid for 6 months daily or twice weekly is acceptable for HIV-negative patients and is cost effective.

Rifampin and pyrazinamide daily for 2 months is appropriate for isoniazid-resistant tuberculosis.

Rifampin daily for 4 months may be given to individuals who cannot tolerate pyrazinamide.
