Reported adverse events include lead migration, new pain (at the site or from other nerve stimulation),persistent skin irritation, change in bowel function, change in bladder function, local infection, technical problem, device problem, and transient electric shock.9 If the lead is placed as a first stage, it is recommended that the lead be dissected out and removed from the original insertion point rather than from the tunneled skin site because lead breakage has been reported. Very few patients have had surgical intervention with adverse effects of SNS. In the original series, only one patient required explantation.
