Screening methods

To screen for antibodies against T. gondii most of the commercial and 'in house' methods can be used. These include ELISA, direct agglutination (DA), indirect immunofluorescense (IFL) and semi-automatized assays based on microparticle enzyme immunoassay (Sandin et al. 1991; De Champs et al. 1997; Cimon et al. 1998). The antigen used in IFL (Huldt et al. 1975) and DA (Desmonts and Remington 1980) is whole, fixed tachyzoites, while more or less purified homogenates are used in ELISA and semi-automatized assays. In Chapter 13 the various antigens are presented.
