Opisthorchiasis cat liver fluke disease

The first case of O. felineus ( Jablokov 1979) infection in man was reported in 1892 by Professor K. V. Vinogradov from the University of Tomsk in West Siberia. The high prevalence of the infection in man, domestic and wild animals in the Ob-Irtish basin was discovered in the 1930s (Shikhobalova et al. 1969). Opisthorchis felineus infection exists as a zoonosis in the vast territory from the Baikal lake to the western borders of the continent of Europe. About two-thirds of nosoarea of opisthorchiasis is located in Russia (Zavoikin 1990).
