Mosquito bites

Mosquito bites rarely - if ever - cause diagnostic problems. However, a late effect of mosquito bites, which very often causes dermatological consultations, is nodulus cutaneous (skin nodule), which is a very common type of skin lesion, usually on the leg. It is usually a consequence of a previous mosquito bite and is made up of a dermal proliferation of collagen. It is hard and adheres to the skin surface. It is completely benign but constitutes an important differential diagnostic item towards pigment cell tumors such as malignant melanoma! (Figure 24.10).
