The most important function the ECU can serve in the author's viewpoint is calling for help via a switch triggered by, say, head control, text telephone, head-free, intercom, or other devices
This is especially important since even seemingly "stable" high SCI patients can suffer all of a sudden from autonomic disturbances
■ Suitably placed processor and effectors can aid the patient in other ADL, e.g.:
- Switching on the television
- Preparation of meals
- Cleaning companies can be called via the Internet to perform more demanding tasks like cleaning and vacuuming
- ADL aids for feeding, etc. will be discussed in Chap. 12 on SCI rehabilitation
