Upper Airway Surgery

Upper airway surgery for treatment of OSA includes uvulopalatopharyngoplasty, laser-assisted uvuloplasty, nasal septoplasty, oromaxillofacial surgery, radiofre-quency volume tissue reduction, and tracheostomy. Overall, there is controversy as to whether upper airway surgery is an effective treatment for OSA. However, in patients with identifiable upper airway abnormalities, surgical treatments may resolve upper airway obstruction and resolve OSA. There are sparse data regarding potential gender differences in the outcome of upper airway surgery for the treatment of OSA.
