Freshfrozen plasma Quick Reference FFP

Advanced Reference: Frozen plasma is rich in factor VIII and fibrinogen, used commonly during multiple transfusion.

Friable Quick Reference: Indicates that a substance (tissue) crumbles easy.

Advanced Reference: Term used in relation to tissues which due to their texture are difficult to repair or diathermize, as with the liver and so bleeding is difficult to control.

Frozen section Quick Reference: Tissue biopsy taken during surgery for examination.

Advanced Reference: When a frozen section is to be taken, pre-arrangements are made with the laboratory and a pathology form is completed in advance by the surgeon. Immediately the biopsy is taken, it is placed in a dry pot and transported immediately to the laboratory. Results take approximately 20-30 min and are phoned through directly to the theatre and surgeon.
