Because of this, Tax is capable of trans-activating a wide variety of cellular genes in addition to the HTLV provirus. Tax is able to mediate these effects through direct and indirect interaction with normal T-cell signaling cascades and regulatory mechanisms of cell activation, growth, and apoptosis.
