Our experience in more than 200 patients has shown that fine granular PAS reactions can be identified in all AML subtypes, ranging from 60 percent in AML (M1 to M3) and 80 percent in AML M5. Moreover, the latter often demonstrates a blocklike reaction pattern characteristic of ALL (J.M. Bennett, unpublished observations). The blocklike pattern of PAS reactivity is seen in erythroid precursors of erythroleukemia.
