Most mature but unstimulated B lymphocytes express both IgM and IgD on their surface, and the specificity of these two receptors is the same (Goding and Layton, 1976). Coexpression of IgM and IgD is probably achieved by differential splicing of a long primary transcript through the n and 6 genes (see Fig. 6.3).
