Summary

Endovascular aneurysm treatment has been integrated into the management of patients with intracranial aneurysms. Evolving technical refinements have dramatically improved the technique of endovascular coil embolization during the past decade. Aneurysm geometry is playing a key role in the selction of patients for endovascular aneurysm coiling. The lower morbidity compared with neurosurgical clipping has to be weighed against a higher rate of incomplete occlusion and recanalization. Therefore angiographic follow-up of patients with coiled aneurysms is necessary. Continuous technical developments may improve the anatomic results.
