The coagulation cascade new concept

Figure. No Caption Available.

The traditional coagulation cascade consisting of extrinsic, intrinsic and common pathways is now considered outmoded, inconsistent with clinical observations, and inadequate to explain the pathways leading to haemostasis in vivo. This schema has been replaced recently by a cell-based model with the major initiating haemostasis event in vivo being the action of factor Vila and tissue factor (TF) at the site of injury.
