All the described surgical techniques have been used for treating obsessive-compulsive disorder. The placebo response is extremely low in obsessive-compulsive disorder. In two case-control studies of such patients undergoing four different procedures, (1. ,19) the operated patients functioned better and had fewer symptoms than control cases of similar severity who had not undergone surgery.
