Molecular pathology

Almost all molecular analyses of human disease end in the characterization of DNA sequence variants that produce the disease. The experimental approaches described at the end of this chapter give an alternative approach to understanding the relationship between gene and behaviour, but at present, at least in humans, we are limited to documenting the mutation and observing the phenotype. The following section documents what we know about this relationship in naturally occurring mutants that cause psychiatric disease.
