The requirements for a model in the biological study of suicide are that it is clinically explanatory, biologically correlated, and testable in both clinical and biological studies/,1,) Ideally, it would also be predictive of those at high risk for suicide. Obviously, to be meaningful such a model must account for, or at least be consistent with, the wealth of epidemiological and clinical information available about suicide. Moreover, its component clinical phenomena should have corresponding biological mechanisms that can be studied in a standard biomedical paradigm.
