Introduction

Psychiatrists, who have traditionally played a custodial role in providing care for all people with mental retardation, are having to adapt to their new role as experts in the neuropsychiatric conditions related to mental retardation. For a detailed description of conditions leading to mental retardation readers are advised to consult Jones. (1)
