Gender differences

Severe antisocial behaviour is less common in girls, but it also has a different form. Girls are less likely to be physically aggressive and engage in criminal behaviour, but are more likely to show non-physical antisocial behaviours. These include spitefulness, emotional bullying (such as excluding children from groups, spreading rumours so others are rejected by their peers), frequent unprotected sex leading to sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy, drug abuse, running away from home, and truancy from school. Compared with boys, fewer girls show the early-onset pattern and more have an onset in adolescence.
