The diagnosis of sexual desire disorders is complicated because no objective criteria of normal sexual desire have ever been established. (2 28) Both DSM-IV and ICD-10 require the clinician to render a subjective judgement about whether a deficiency, lack of interest, or absence of sexual desire exists ( Table..!). Hypoactive sexual desire is not diagnosed simply because one partner complains that the other is lacking desire, and it is not diagnosed when it fails to cause marked distress. There are cases where two individuals each with low desire have a mutually satisfying sexual relationship.
