Correlational designs graded response

An alternative approach, resting on fewer assumptions about the componential nature of the psychological processes under investigation, is that of a correlational design or so-called 'graded response' paradigm. Here a parameter of psychological/physiological interest is systematically varied across PET scans and correlations are obtained between regional cerebral blood flow and the parameter manipulated. Such an approach may identify brain systems that respond over a range, or above a threshold, of the manipulated variable.(4)
