Frequently, children with AD-HKD meet the criteria for more than one concurrent psychiatric disorder—a phenomenon known as comorbidity. In samples of children with AD-HKD, approximately 35 per cent meet the criteria for oppositional defiant disorder, 25 per cent for conduct disorder, 15 per cent for depressive disorder, and 25 per cent for anxiety disorder. (i1) In fact, over 50 per cent of children with AD-HKD meet the criteria for two comorbid conditions.(42) A mental retardation occurs in about 12 to 25 per cent, and language impairment in about 5 per cent of children with AD-HKD.
