Although potentially devastating, nervous system trauma in children should be aggressively and wisely managed with the hope of attaining an excellent outcome. While there are many similarities between the management of adult and pediatric neurotrauma, physiological, sociological and psychological differences must be recognized and expert pediatric neurosurgical care made available. Care of the neuro-logically injured child also poses dramatic ethical challenges. Excellent communication between doctor, patient, family and all members of the trauma-care team will contribute to optimal outcome.
