Differential diagnosis

Common

• Drugs (huge list e.g. gold, sulphonamides, penicillin); erythema multiforme (Stevens-Johnson syndrome).

• Parasitic infections: hookworm, Ascaris, tapeworms, filariasis, amoebi-140 asis, schistosomiasis.

• Allergic syndromes—asthma, eczema, urticaria.

Less common

• Dermatitis herpetiformis (DH).

• Polyarteritis nodosa (PAN).

Rare

• Hypereosinophilic (Loeffler's) syndrome.

• Eosinophilic leukaemia.

• AML with eosinophilia esp. M4Eo (see p151).
