Presentation as local pain, discomfort and restriction of mobility. Diagnosis

Confirmed by x-ray or other imaging. Management

• Awareness of risk/possibility and early diagnosis.

• Orthopaedic—immobilisation and support as appropriate for nature and site of injury, surgical intervention including pinning or other fixation.

• Radiotherapy—local management of fracture 2° to local malignancy.

• Mobilisation—physiotherapy.

• Treatment of underlying condition predisposing to fracture.
