Childhood myelodysplastic syndromes and chronic leukaemias

Myelodysplastic syndromes of childhood present a different spectrum of disease from that seen in adults. All are rare. The FAB classification of adult MDS (ffl p220) has been translated to paediatric disease, but sits uncomfortably and is of limited use clinically or in understanding the complex biology of this diverse group of clonal disorders of marrow function. The proportion that map to the various adult categories is shown below.
