Clinical Significance

The use of expression profiling for cancer diagnosis has been demonstrated for the classification of several cancers, including breast cancer, lung cancer, and others (Table 29-1). The potential applications of this new technology for elucidating disease mechanisms are vast. The possible genes and proteins for therapeutic drug and gene targeting may be identified with significant diagnostic, therapeutic, and disease-monitoring implications.
