Phenylpropanolamine Linked With Stroke

In November, the US FDA issued a public health advisory concerning the potential risk of stroke with phenylpropanolamine and took steps to remove the agent from all drug products, including nasal decongestants and bodyweight control pro-ducts.827:2 These steps came following the findings of a US study that showed an increased risk of haemorrhagic stroke associated with phenylpro-panolamine use.827:5 The findings of this study were due to be published in the 21 December issue of New England Journal of Medicine, but were released in early November because of the potential public health implications.
