HFA was removed by exposing the electrospun fibers to methanol which served as a coagulant in the post-treatment process. Fiber diameters obtained ranged from 100 to 1000 nm. The research group also reported the production of fibers made from recombinant hybrid silk using a genetic engineering technique. Another possible option to produce nanofibers from silk fibroin by co-spinning with a polymer that electrospins easily was reported by Fridrikh [11].
