Structure of the Nervous System

• The nervous system has two divisions—the central nervous • The sensory division of the PNS contains sensory neurons system (CNS) and peripheral nervous system (PNS).

• The CNS is made up of the brain and spinal cord. The PNS is made of neurons with cell bodies that are not part of the brain and spinal cord.

and interneurons that connect to the CNS. The motor division allows the body to react to sensory information.

• The somatic nervous system controls skeletal muscles and is under voluntary control. The autonomic nervous system controls internal body conditions.
