MHCT is an important advancement in helical CT technology and provides increased capability and flexibility of thoracic imaging with CT. Compared to single-detector helical CT, MHCT offers the opportunity to increase scanning speed, improve spatial resolution, improve signal-to-noise ratio, simultaneously create thin and thick sections, and perform higher quality reconstruction images. By fully understanding the principles of MHCT, one can tailor CT individual examinations in order to optimize image quality. To date, the greatest advantage of MHCT is in the area of CT angiography. However, this emerging technology will likely improve all aspects of thoracic CT imaging.
