Distribution under Normal Conditions

Myofibroblasts positive for a-SMA and negative for desmin are scattered and distributed mainly in the outer layer of the wall of the main pancreatic duct consisting of collagen fibers and elastic fibers (figs. 1, 2). Under normal conditions, the role of these cells may play a role in the regulation of flow of pancreatic juice.
