Members of the genera Micrococcus, Mycobacterium, Pseudomonas, Thermus, and Deinococcus are obligate aerobes that generate ATP by degrading organic compounds, using O2 as a terminal electron acceptor. Most Corynebacterium species and all members of the family Enterobacteriaceae are facultative anaerobes.
