Rotaviruses (figure 24.16) are about 70 nm in diameter, have a double-walled capsid, and a double-stranded, 11-segment RNA genome. The viruses represent a major subgroup of the reovirus family. Their name comes from rota, Latin for "wheel." ■ reovirus family, p. 343
